If you are in a relationship with someone affected by addiction, we encourage you to contact our Center to schedule an appointment and get more information about The 5-Step Method Program.

The 5-Step Method is a free program for family members who are affected by drug and/or alcohol addiction in a loved one.

This approach recognizes that the impact of addiction on family members can be a very stressful experience, but with support and knowledge, family members can develop their coping and response skills.

5-STEP METHOD INTERVENTION

The 5-Step Method is an unbiased, nondirective, problem-solving intervention that recognizes that family members are experts in their situation and can play a key role in the course and outcome of their loved one’s addiction.

  • Understanding the Impact of Addiction: Help family members understand how their loved one’s addiction is affecting their lives and emotions.

  • Gaining Knowledge: Provide essential information about addiction to help alleviate concerns and reduce anxiety about the situation.

  • Developing Effective Responses: Enable family members to analyze their past responses to their loved one’s addiction and develop new, more effective strategies for responding.

  • Building a Support Network: Help them identify and utilize available sources of support, both within their family and in the community.

  • Assessing the Need for Further Help: Help determine if the family needs further, more advanced help and how to obtain it.

Basic goals of the Program:

The 5 Step Method was developed by Addiction and the Family International Network (AIFNet-UK), www.afinetwork.info/ and is an evidence-based intervention.
