A psychological consultation is a meeting with a professional educated in psychology and/or psychotherapy, a conversation on a topic of interest to the client in order to obtain help with the client's needs in an atmosphere of respect and understanding.
During the consultation, the psychologist directs the conversation, asks appropriate questions, and summarizes the information collected. Additionally, he or she can use professional tools - psychological tests, questionnaires.
Consultations are not psychotherapy and do not oblige either the person using the help or the person consulting. Depending on the needs, it may be one meeting, several or even a dozen.
Anyone who feels the need and is looking for help for themselves and their loved ones. Often the first meeting can be a great support for the client.
The purpose of the consultation is to gather information, make a preliminary attempt to define the nature of the problem, make a diagnosis, determine the client’s expectations and needs, and the rules regarding the offer at the center that the client wishes to use.
The number of meetings depends on the nature of the problem, the needs of the client and the person consulting. During an individual consultation, if such a need arises in agreement with the client, the client may also be referred to another specialist in the CKU, e.g. to a psychiatrist, psychotherapist or to another specialist in another facility or to a support facility in the area of the client's needs and the possibilities of the CKU.
Who can benefit from a psychological consultation?
A psychologist differs from a psychotherapist in terms of qualifications and the scope in which they can help.
He has completed a master's degree, most often in the department of psychology or humanities. He has learned the principles of functioning of the psychological zone. He deals with conducting psychological tests, issues decisions and opinions to the court and specifies the psychological diagnosis (concerning cognitive or personality disorders), which is helpful in neurological or psychiatric treatment. The psychologist also provides counseling in the areas of everyday life and professional work.
Specializations: forensic, clinical, sports and transport psychology.
Psychologists also complete other courses that grant additional qualifications.

At the CKU Center, you can also take advantage of other forms of therapy and personal development.
A psychotherapist begins their training during or after higher education. These can be medical, psychological, pedagogical, or humanistic studies. Doctors who conduct psychotherapy may specialize in psychiatry, but also in family medicine or internal medicine, for example.
In psychotherapy, the healing process takes place within the framework of the relationship between the client and the psychotherapist, which is created in the process of observation, learning, and reproducing difficulties. Psychotherapy is not counseling.
At CKU we offer an eclectic approach to working with clients, using various psychotherapeutic trends, methods and therapeutic tools.
