A psychiatric consultation is a conversation with a psychiatrist, during which the consulted person has the opportunity to talk about discomfort or even suffering ailments, disturbing thoughts or emotions. The doctor's task is to look for the sources of the reported symptoms, as they can be of both psychological and somatic background.

Psychiatric consultation is mainly directed to people who experience psychological discomfort, but also struggle with somatic ailments that make functioning and performing everyday activities difficult.

On the basis of an interview and depending on the needs of a specific person, a psychiatrist may propose various forms of treatment in an outpatient setting (pharmacotherapy, psychoeducation, psychotherapy - individual, group or family therapy, or participation in workshops or support groups), and in special situations also in hospital conditions (treatment in inpatient and day wards, community treatment wards).

PSYCHIATRIC CONSULTATIONS

One consultation is not always enough time for a final diagnosis and a possible treatment proposal. The doctor may indicate the need for specific diagnostic tests (laboratory, imaging or psychological), interviewing a family member or consulting a specialist in another field (neurologist, internist, endocrinologist, or other specialist or therapist involved in the treatment process).

The first visit takes about 50 minutes

During the first visit, the doctor gets acquainted with the current situation of the person, gathers an interview regarding the history of symptoms

(and possibly previous treatment) and somatic health status, and then presents a treatment proposal.

The duration of subsequent meetings is up to 30 minutes

The frequency is determined based on the needs of the consulted person and the treatment schedule.

The frequency and duration of consultations:

Psychiatric consultations take place online.
