At CKU, we run the Reduce of Use Program ( POP)

The program includes 8 to 12 sessions that take place once a week.

The goals and methods of implementing POP are individually tailored to each client while maintaining the program's conditions.

POP assumptions:

➔ POP does not aim to holistically change the client's functioning, it is aimed at changing the drinking pattern

➔ The specialist's role is to help the client build and strengthen the motivation and skills necessary to implement and maintain the change

➔ POP focuses on strengthening the clients' sense of self-efficacy

➔ The client has the right to choose the goals and methods of treatment

POP - REDUCE OF USE Program

POP is based on short-term interventions focused on the analysis of the current style of alcohol use and the implementation of procedures that help to achieve self-control over the amount and frequency of its consumption, i.e. limiting alcohol consumption.

These are individual and/or group interventions aimed at developing a disciplined pattern of alcohol consumption, in accordance with a plan established together with the therapist, containing a set of rules regarding alcohol use - (amount, frequency, context, time and place).

Who can benefit from the program?

1. People who drink alcohol harmfully,

2. People addicted to alcohol, in particular:

  • young adults

  • those with less severe symptoms of addiction

  • those with a shorter history of addiction

  • those experiencing fewer consequences related to drinking alcohol

  • those having better social support

  • those who do not experience severe withdrawal symptoms

  • those who do not have medical contraindications to drinking alcohol (pregnant women, liver diseases, diabetes, mental illnesses and others)

  • alcohol users who do not accept abstinence as the goal of treatment

The goal of POP is to significantly reduce alcohol consumption and develop safer patterns of alcohol use by:

➔ Limiting the amount of alcohol consumed in total over a period of time (e.g. a week)

➔ Limiting the amount of alcohol consumed during a single drinking occasion (preventing binge drinking)

➔ Reducing the frequency of alcohol consumption and binge drinking (fewer drinking days and heavy drinking)

➔ Refraining from drinking in specific situations

➔ Changing drinking habits

Any reduction in alcohol consumption can be beneficial to physical and mental health and social functioning.
